Eaton Posts Record Q3 Sales as Power Demand Lifts Outlook

Direct answer: Eaton, a power management company, reported record sales in the third quarter of 2026. Sales rose 28 percent to $8.95 billion, and the company raised its outlook for the full year.

What happened

Eaton reported results on November 3, 2026, for the three months ended September 30, 2026. Sales reached $8.947 billion, up 28 percent from a year earlier. Organic sales, which strip out acquisitions and currency moves, rose 19 percent, while acquisitions added 8 percent and foreign exchange added 1 percent.

Adjusted earnings per share were a record $3.68, up from $3.07 a year earlier and above the $3.54 consensus estimate reported by Zacks. Reported diluted earnings per share were $2.77. Segment margins reached a record 25.3 percent.

Orders also strengthened. The electrical backlog was up 46 percent from a year earlier at the end of September, and rolling twelve month organic orders rose 39 percent in Electrical Americas and 51 percent in Electrical Global. Electrical Americas sales were a record $4.2 billion, up 22 percent organically, and Electrical Global sales rose 58 percent to $2.7 billion. Aerospace sales reached a third quarter record of $1.2 billion, up 11 percent.

Eaton raised its full year 2026 organic growth outlook to 13 percent to 15 percent, from 11 percent to 13 percent before. It also forecast full year adjusted earnings per share of $13.70 to $13.80.

Why it matters for beginners

A backlog is simply orders that customers have placed but that have not been delivered yet. A backlog up 46 percent suggests demand was still building at the end of September, not fading.

Power equipment matters because electricity has to be moved, controlled, and protected safely in factories, offices, utilities, and data centres. When that kind of spending stays strong, it can point to continued investment in buildings and infrastructure.

An earnings beat means the result came in above what analysts had expected on average. That can lift confidence in a company, but one quarter does not settle the longer story. For another recent example of strong demand linked to AI infrastructure, see CDW’s record quarter.

What to watch next

Watch the fourth quarter, where Eaton guides to organic growth of 13 percent to 15 percent and adjusted earnings per share of $4.05 to $4.15. Also watch whether the electrical backlog stays strong, whether margins hold near the record level, and whether orders slow as the year closes.

FAQ

What does Eaton make? Eaton makes power management equipment and related products that help move and control electricity in buildings, industry, and transport.

What is adjusted earnings per share? It is profit per share after removing some one-off items, such as acquisition and restructuring charges. It is useful for comparison, but it is not the same as reported profit per share, which was $2.77 here.

Why did Eaton raise its outlook? Eaton pointed to strong sales and orders in the quarter, and it raised its expected full year organic growth range to 13 percent to 15 percent.
