DoorDash Falls 9% as Amazon Teams Up With Uber Eats for Free Prime Delivery
DoorDash shares fell about 9% on Thursday, November 5, 2026, after Amazon and Uber announced a new delivery partnership. Prime members can now order Uber Eats food through Amazon and pay no delivery fee on orders of 25 dollars or more.
What happened
Amazon and Uber announced the deal on the morning of November 5, and it took effect right away. Prime members can browse and order from hundreds of thousands of restaurants inside Amazon’s website or app, with no separate Uber account needed. The zero delivery fee applies across nearly 10,000 cities and towns in the United States.
The deal replaces Amazon’s previous partnership with Grubhub, which ended the same day. Prime members had free Grubhub+ since 2022. Amazon estimates frequent users could save more than 175 dollars a year, more than the cost of an annual Prime membership, though service fees still apply. To start the partnership, Prime members get 20 dollars off each of their first two Uber Eats restaurant orders of 25 dollars or more.
DoorDash shares fell 9.4% to 179.92 dollars at the close, its worst day in about a year, according to Motley Fool market data. Reports during the day put the drop at 10% to 14% at different points. Uber shares fell about 2%, and Amazon fell about 2.2% in a broad tech selloff on the same day.
DoorDash still leads food delivery in the United States. It held about 59% of delivery app spending in the third quarter, against 18% for Uber Eats, according to Consumer Edge card data. Its gross order value rose 36% to 33.9 billion dollars in the quarter. DoorDash also agreed last month to buy Instacart for about 17 billion dollars, a deal covered in our earlier post on DoorDash buying Instacart.
The drop also followed DoorDash’s third quarter results, reported on November 4. Revenue of 3.45 billion dollars beat forecasts, but earnings of 55 cents a share missed the 68 cents expected, and management said spending will rise in 2026.
Why it matters for beginners
Competition can change a market leader’s story fast. One partnership gave a smaller rival instant access to millions of Prime members, and investors reacted at once.
A single stock can fall sharply on news even when the wider business is still growing. DoorDash revenue grew, yet the shares fell, because investors were looking ahead at tougher competition and higher spending.
Delivery fees matter to customers. Free delivery is a strong reason to switch apps, so investors watch these perks closely. If you own a broad index fund, one stock’s bad day matters less, because your money is spread across many companies.
What to watch next
Watch whether Prime members actually order more through Uber Eats in the coming months. Watch DoorDash’s response, such as new perks or lower fees. Uber’s next earnings report in early February should show early signs of Prime order growth. The Instacart deal is expected to close in late 2027 or early 2028, subject to regulatory review.
