Philippines Inflation Jumps to 7.8% in October, Fastest in Nearly Four Years
Direct answer
Philippines inflation rose to 7.8% in October 2026, up from 7.2% in September, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported on Thursday, November 5. That is the fastest reading in nearly four years, since 8.6% in February 2023, and it was above the 7.6% median forecast in a Reuters poll. The result stayed inside the central bank forecast range of 7.1% to 8.1% for October.

What happened
Transport inflation jumped to 20.1% in October, from 14.6% in September. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose to 9.3%, from 8.4%. Core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, rose to 5.4%, from a revised 4.8% in September and 2.5% a year earlier. Prices rose 0.7% from September to October, after a 1.0% monthly rise in September. Average inflation for January to October was 5.6%. Outside the National Capital Region, inflation rose to 8.2%, from 7.6%. BusinessWorld reported that National Statistician Claire Dennis S. Mapa said faster inflation in transport, housing and utilities, and restaurants and accommodation services drove the rise. Reuters coverage linked higher transport and utility costs to higher energy costs linked to the prolonged Middle East conflict, in a country that relies heavily on energy supplies from the region.
Why it matters for beginners
A 7.8% rate means a basket of goods and services that cost 100 pesos a year ago would cost about 107.80 pesos now, on average. That squeeze on everyday budgets is why inflation matters even for people who do not follow markets closely. The rate is well above the central bank target range of 2% to 4%. When inflation stays high, it can also keep pressure on interest rates, which affects borrowing costs. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas raised its benchmark rate by 50 basis points to 5.50% at its October meeting. Inflation is not moving the same way everywhere. In the eurozone, October inflation was 4.0%, as covered in our post at https://investclaritypath.com/eurozone-inflation-rises-4-percent-october-2026/.
What to watch next
Watch the November inflation reading, the next Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas meeting on December 17, and whether energy, transport and utility pressures ease or stay high. Those will shape whether October marked a peak or the start of a longer high inflation stretch.

Why did inflation rise in October?
Mainly faster transport and housing and utility costs, linked to higher energy costs.
Does this mean interest rates will rise again?
Not automatically. The central bank will weigh new inflation and growth data at its December 17 meeting.
