Cognex Posts Record Revenue in Q3 2026 as Machine Vision Sales Rise
Direct answer
Cognex reported record revenue in the third quarter of 2026. Sales reached $313 million for the quarter ended October 4, 2026, up 13 percent from a year earlier. The company also raised its full year revenue outlook.

What happened
Cognex makes machine vision technology. In simple terms, its cameras and software help factories check products, read codes, and guide machines. Demand was broad based across most of its major end markets, the company said.
Revenue rose 13 percent year on year. Without a one time benefit in the same quarter last year from a commercial partnership with a medical lab automation channel partner, revenue growth was 19 percent.
Profit also improved sharply. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.53, up 61 percent from a year earlier. Net income was $85 million, compared with $18 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA, a measure of operating profit before some costs, was $111 million, with a margin of 35.5 percent.
Cognex ended the quarter with $846 million in cash and investments and no debt.
The company also said it had entered a definitive agreement to acquire RealSense, a maker of depth sensing cameras and vision technology for robotic perception and physical artificial intelligence. The all cash deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
For the fourth quarter, Cognex expects revenue of $270 million to $290 million. For the full year, it raised its revenue outlook to $1,143 million to $1,163 million, from a previous range of $1,130 million to $1,150 million.
Why it matters for beginners
One company result does not tell you what to buy, and this article does not recommend Cognex shares. It is useful because it shows how a smaller industrial technology company can grow when factories spend more on automation.
Machine vision sits behind everyday manufacturing. When a factory wants fewer defects and faster lines, it may buy more cameras and software. That spending can rise and fall with factory investment, so one strong quarter is not a promise of the next one.
For beginners, the safer lesson is about diversification. A single company can beat or miss expectations even in a good quarter. A broad basket, such as an index fund, spreads that company specific risk across many firms. See our beginner guide to index funds.
What to watch next
Watch whether the RealSense deal closes in the fourth quarter as planned, and whether fourth quarter revenue lands inside the $270 million to $290 million range. Also watch factory spending and automation orders, since those drive Cognex sales. The company is due to discuss the results on a call on November 5, 2026.
